Here is the latest video game news that GeekMoms and GeekDads have been talking about:

  • Microsoft released the new features it began chattering about earlier this year. As they’ve indicated in several of their announcement/update articles this release is being categorized into four themes they are calling “Streaming, Performance, People, and Competition.” Beam is their new streaming approach, to rival Twitch. It has been in beta for some time but was rolled out to the broader masses on March 29th. Although I’m guessing most folks will use it on Xbox it is also available for PC, iOS, and Android. Also in this release is the Windows Game Mode. They’ve also revamped the Home screen on Xbox One and created new ways to multitask. You can get the skinny on these changes and what they mean for you by reading their release notes article.
  • Also for Xbox the new free games for those with Xbox Live are Darksiders (04/01 – 04/15), Ryse (04/01 – 04/30), The Walking Dead: Season Two (04/16 – 05/15), Assassin’s Creed Revelations (04/16 – 04/30), and Evolve Ultimate Edition is still available until 04/15.

  • Nintendo released Mario Sports Superstars for the 3DS on March 24th.
  • Playstation has announced several upcoming releases for the PS4 including Prey (05/05/17), Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (06/30/2017), Red Dead Redemption 2 (Fall 2017), and a remake of Final Fantasy VII that doesn’t yet have a name nor a release date.

  • If you haven’t already, snag Nintendo’s Super Mario Run that was just released on Android March 24th.
  • Steam has lots of one day or weekend sales and you should bookmark their News front page so you can keep up on them. These will all probably expire by the time you read this but just to let you know the types of deals you’re missing by not checking often Bastion was 75% off, Ark: Survival Evolved was 67% off, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition was 50% off this past weekend.
