Join GeekDads Dave Banks and Joey Mills in America’s heartland the last weekend in April at Planet Comicon, the longest-running comic book convention and pop culture expo in Kansas City. The 2016 event was attended by more than 70,000 convention goers (and covered here at GeekDad). This year’s event promises expanded space to include even more vendors, artists, and scheduled events.
Sure, you can attend just to pick up art or products from your favorite vendors. Yeah, you can meet and get autographed works from any number of print or web-based comic creators. Maybe you want to show off your latest and greatest cosplay. You could even get your photo taken with the line up of celebrity guests. Those are all great and worthy uses of your time on the convention floor, but we know the real reason you’re all jazzed up for this year’s event.
GeekDad: Raising Generation 2.0Friday April 28, 2017 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm GeekDad.com's Joey Mills and Games Editor Dave Banks take a look back at “when we were kids” and talk about the importance of using technology and pop culture in parenting the next generation of geeks. They will touch on the changing ways that we consume entertainment, how to share fandoms (and not be afraid of reboots/rebirths), why representation matters in entertainment, and activities families can engage in order to bond over shared interests.
Room 2105 Located on the ground level on the north side of 13th street, below Hall A.
If you’re already planning to attend, be sure to stop in and say “hi”. If you’re on the fence about attending, now you have your reason to pick up your tickets. If you’re in the area or within a short drive, treat yourself to a weekend in The City of Fountains and make it a point to spend a little time with tens of thousands of your fellow geeks.
You can find more information about this year’s schedule of events, guest lineup, and purchase your tickets online at the Planet Comicon Kansas City website.
