Here is the latest video game chatter that caught our eye this week:
- Last week I mentioned Orisa was being released as the latest tank in Overwatch. Attempting to try out a new character in standard play formats in Overwatch can be a bit tough as everyone wants to do the same. I played a few rounds of Mystery Heroes in Arcade Mode earlier this week and sure enough, I landed Orisa three times. My take on her is that she’s great for moving forward and holding ground with her team behind her and then repeating when her shield is ready to be recast. If she tries to hold it alone she will become overwhelmed swiftly. She will also fail if she tries to push in too far too fast. She’s is neither tough enough nor quick enough to survive. In the rounds where my random teammates picked up on what I was doing, we dominated with her. Temple of Anubis will be so much easier for you to play on the attacking side with her, provided the rest of the team is on board with push, hold, push.

- Do you like retro/throwback games? You might want to check out Thimbleweed Park which is going on sale on Steam March 30th. Created by Ron Gilbert (of Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, and The Cave fame) and Gary Winnick this game takes you back to classic adventure gaming in style. Just be warned that the below video, though it beeps through the words, is not appropriate for young ears. This clown’s got a mouth on him, my friends. And if you Google search the game devs, make sure you add the words game developer behind Gary’s name or you get a whole different unfortunate set of search results.
- Oxygen Not Included is available in alpha stage on Steam. This is a resource management space adventure game from Klei Entertainment that my and GeekDad Randy Slavey’s smaller minions appear to be enjoying.
- Just a reminder that this month’s Games With Gold entries from Xbox are about to expire. They are Layers of Fear, Evolve Ultimate Edition, and Heavy Weapon (Xbox 360 compatible with Xbox One). Evolve Ultimate Edition is available to download until 4/15.
- GeekMoms and GeekDads spend a fair amount of their time playing and writing about video games. Here is the rundown of what we wrote about this week:
