Here are the latest announcements and stories that caught our eyes this week:
- Yep, I told you. Delivering on my promise. Here’s the latest on Eric Lang’s Rising Sun from CMON. Arguably, it’s a bit of put-on because it’s an article about the game’s aesthetic (which there’s no final art for), but it’s also a testament to how important Lang & CMON are approaching this game. Plus, the Kickstarter launches next week, on March 7. Can’t wait! Deploy wallets!
- Re-Roll is dedicated to board game news. We try to avoid Kickstarter because we cover those projects a lot elsewhere on the site and digital versions of games, because, well, they aren’t cardboard. But … we were really excited when we learned that Scythe was coming to digital! According to Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier Games, it won’t be out for a while yet, but we are super excited with the prospect of Scythe on our tablets and (very, very hopefully) online multiplayer.
- And before we jump too far away from digital games, we should mention that a GeekDad favorite, Evolution, from North Star Games, is coming to non-cardboard devices sooner than you can sail to the Galapagos and back. Woo-Hoo!
- Fluxx is one of those games that everyone needs at least one copy of one (or a few) variations. We’re excited that they’ve begun mixing up the themes with a few that are a bit educational-ish. The first, Math Fluxx, will be showing up in game stores this coming week. And who doesn’t love math?
- Besides writing some of the best books to ever adorn dead trees, Patrick Rothfuss is one of the writers of the upcoming MST3K season and he developed one of my favorite games in years, alongside James Ernest. Tak made its way to stores this past week and, if abstract strategy is a genre that interests you … you need this game.
- I forgot to mention this last week, but Evergreen Tabletop Expo, having moved from Tacoma to Seattle, has dates: June 3-4. Go register!
- In case you haven’t heard, Fantasy Flight publishes some Star Wars games and one of their big hits (actually, it seems they’ve all been big hits) is the Destiny Dice and Card Game. Units quickly disappeared from shelves after release, but, thankfully, reprints are on the way!
- If you’re a print & player or a wanna-be designer, we’ve got some exciting news for you. Game Crafter, the premier spot on teh interwebs for home-brewed gaming has announced they are now offering custom punchouts. The possibilities are pretty much endless.
- Lastly, Cryptozoic has a new Batman game. Batman: The Animated Series Almost Got ’Im Card Game is a 5-8 player deduction affair based on an episode of the eponymous show. If you’ve got a big group, this is sure to be a hit because party games are pretty darn fun and … Batman!
