This week, we’re looking to the stars and chatting with Emily Calandrelli. Odds are, you’ve seen Calandrelli around the interwebs (or beyond), especially if you’re interested in STEM or space exploration – subjects for which she’s become something of a spokesperson.
Calandrelli has taken a Master’s in Aeronautics and Astronautics (from MIT, no less) and a gift for communication and used them to her advantage in the public sphere – an arena that was, quite frankly, previously only occupied by a couple guys named Nye and Tyson.
She’s the host of Fox’s Xploration Outer Space, has given a couple TED talks, is one of the science correspondents for the upcoming Netflix show Bill Nye Saves the World, is science host for Discovery News, and covers the space industry for Techcrunch. Yeah, I wasn’t kidding. She knows her stuff.
On this episode, we talk to Calandrelli about what set her on a path toward scientific disciplines, STEM vs. liberal arts, scientific illiteracy and skepticism, sci-fi tech, and what has her most excited for the future.
