Today I’m delighted to announce that one of my favorite podcasts, which I just so happen to be a co-host of, has joined the GeekDad Podcast Network! I’d love to invite you to listen to We Are Entertained, a weekly show hosted by Matt Roberts, Richard Owen, and me wherein we discuss what has entertained us individually during the week and have a group conversation about a recently released film.
Let me add a word of warning to parents; every so often one of us has a potty mouth (it’s usually me) and says something you might not want little ones to hear. This might be a show just for grown-up ears–your mileage may vary.
In this week’s episode, we were short-handed as Rich was either busy on a shoot (did I mention he’s a filmmaker?) or got butterflies at the prospect of our début on the GPN. He wouldn’t clarify exactly which, but I think we soldiered on admirably.
I was able to snag a screener for the Academy Award-nominated film I Am Not Your Negro, and talked with Matt about how it affected me, why I think it’s an important documentary to watch, and talked a bit about James Baldwin (the subject of the movie) and his work.
Matt watched the first two episodes of the new series 24: Legacy and shared his thoughts about the Jack Bauer-less version of the show. Many tangential conversations ensued, but I do think we got in a few minutes of coverage of the actual show.
Our feature this week was The Space Between Us, a sci-fi adventure/romance that has garnered fantastically terrible reviews on most of the major review sites. The critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes reads, “The Space Between Us strands its star-crossed young lovers in a mind-numbingly vast expanse of shameless cheese that will send all but the most forgiving viewers eye-rolling for the exits,” but audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film a respectable A- rating. This might be an episode you want to listen to before you see the film with your young ones; the movie is PG-13 and we talk a little about its appropriateness for kids. Leave a comment and let us know what you thought!
You can listen on iTunes, Google Play, and iHeartRadio; you can follow the RSS feed; you can download directly; or you can listen right here!
Tune in next week for our episode on the newest Keanu Reeves film John Wick: Chapter 2. We’re beyond excited; the original film was one of our favorites!
