Here are the latest announcements and stories that caught our eyes this week:
- Warlord Games has turned their Beyond the Gates of Antares series into a dice game. Yes, technically, it’s always been a dice game, but this take-that version is a straight-up dice rolling diversion. It hits shelves February 18.
- If you’re into RPGs, check out the sci-fi Faith: A Garden in Hell. It’s a beautiful starter set that will give you a walkthrough of the game’s mechanics, complete with pregen characters and a more detailed rulebook, too. The game is available now and seems to be a taste of what’s to come when they launch the core game on Kickstarter in March.
- Gale Force Nine has teamed up with the BBC to bring you Doctor Who: Time of the Daleks. Recruit companions, travel through time, and upgrade your TARDIS. The game will be available later, this spring.
- Although it was seen for the first time at BGG.Con, there was no official word from Days of Wonder about the new Bruno Cathala game, Yamatai, until this week when an official page went up on the DoW site. The game borrows a little from Cathala’s previous DoW hit, Five Tribes, and players use ships to explore islands and build on them in this tactical, always-changing game. Due this spring.
- Can’t get enough Arkham Horror? Fantasy Flight has you covered. The upcoming The Investigators of Arkham Horror is a 264-page, full-color book that’s packed with art, short stories, and profiles of those that venture into the Lovecraftian universe.
- The reprint of Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective has been popular lately, which might explain why WizKids announced an upcoming cooperative mystery solver set in the age of pulp detective novels of 1930s New York City. The game, Deadline, will show up in June.
- We don’t talk about Monopoly very often at GeekDad; we aren’t big fans. But a new version of the game from USAopoly caught our attention. Later this year, you’ll be able to play with the whole Belcher family in a special Bob’s Burgers version.
- HABA confirmed on Twitter that a sequel to the 3D stacking game Rhino Hero was on the way. Rhino Hero: Super Battle will feature extra big cards and up to four heroes in play. Capes optional during gameplay.
- As you may have seen, we are overhauling how we pick our Game of the Year. It’s a challenge we’re looking forward to!
