Re-Roll: This Week’s Tabletop Game News

Geek Culture Re-Roll Tabletop Games

Here are the latest announcements and stories that caught our eyes this week:

  • GeekDad favorite Gamewright made news this past week by donating more than $3 million worth of games and puzzles during the Toy Industry Foundation’s 2016 Holiday Day Drive. The foundation has raised more than $200 million in its history, serving more than 23 million kids facing hardships and adversity.
  • Coming in February, Upper Deck’s Legendary game gets a Noir storyline. The expansion, which was announced in October, will feature 5 new heroes, 2 villain groups, 2 new masterminds, and 4 schemes.
  • I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you! CMON will be releasing Raise Your Goblets later this month. The high stakes game where players try to poison or heal competitors vying to be next in line for the throne features neat components and promises to be a fun time.
  • Asmodee re-released Bruxelles 1893 this week, a strategic worker placement based on Art Nouveau architecture. Raise money, find materials, and build a masterpiece! The award-winning game had been out of print.
  • Gaming bid goodbye to designer Sean Sweigart (Firefly, Star Trek Ascendancy) this week. The Gale Force Nine employee’s passing was unexpected and he leaves a daughter behind. A GoFundMe page has been created in his memory.
  • Dungeons & Dragons announced a collection of adventures was coming this spring. Tales from the Yawning Portal will include dungeons from the likes of Gary Gygax, Rich Baker, Bruce R. Cordell, and others, all of which have been fine-tuned to work with 5E.
  • You may have noticed over to the right, in the sidebar, or up in the navigation that we’ve aggregated all of the GeekDad game reviews in a single index you can peruse to find games we’ve enjoyed over the years. There are still a few caught in the wind, which we’re trying to track down in our database–so it’s definitely a work in process–but we hope it will be helpful to you.
  • Also, this past week, we announced our Games of the Year. It’s a bit of a cumbersome announcement, as it has been in the past. We recognize that and are working on presenting you with something a bit more streamlined. Look for an announcement soon!
  • Finally, a number of the GeekDads and GeekMoms will be getting together at 9 PM Eastern Saturday to play Star Wars: Edge of the Empire again. You’ll be able to watch the madness on our livestream.
