Homeschooling High School with College in Mind

Are you homeschooling high school with college in mind?

Are you a homeschooling parent? Are you worried about homeschooling high school? Does the college application process have you stressed out?

I’m not quite there yet, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about high school. Homeschooling high school always seems a bit intimidating.

As a homeschool blogger, I am constantly looking for resources to share with other parents. I am often asked about resources for homeschooling high school. There are certainly fewer books and blogs written about homeschooling high schoolers than there are for the younger years.

Well, I recently learned about a new resource for homeschool parents. The book is called Homeschooling High School with College in Mind, written by Betsy Sproger, a fellow homeschool blogger.

Betsy homeschooled her gifted and twice-exceptional daughter and guided her through the college application process. Sproger’s daughter was admitted to each of the colleges she applied to, including an Ivy League school and a tier-two university, with scholarship offers at each school.

Sproger wrote this book as a guide to college prep for homeschoolers. The goal of the book is to make the college admissions process easier and less intimidating for homeschool families. The guide covers the following topics:

  • Researching College Entrance Requirements
  • Planning High School with College in Mind
  • Choosing High School Curriculum
  • Assigning High School Credit
  • Making Your Transcripts (Calculating the GPA, etc)
  • Electives and College
  • Writing the College Essay
  • Course Descriptions and Reference Letters
  • Preparing your Teen for College Writing
  • Nature Study and PE

Betsy was kind enough to share a copy with me and I am happy to have it on my shelf, although I won’t need it for several years. I know time will fly too quickly, so I am glad I have it in my homeschool arsenal.

I am sharing this book today because it will be on sale the week of January 28th. The Kindle edition will be 45% off the listed price and hard copies will be 20% off.

Now, it’s your turn. Are you homeschooling high school with college in mind? What resources would you recommend for other homeschooling parents? Share here.

  1. We are two homeschooling moms who struggled through the college admissions process with our own children and watched our friends and family go through the same agony. In the spirit of knowledge-seeking, do-it-yourself homeschooling families, we recently launched an online course to help families take control of the college admissions process. Our “Complete College Admissions Prep Course” offers approximately 7 hours of self-paced video courses broken into short bites, and packed with information, tools, and resources to ensure you get the job done right. We invite homeschooling families to check us out and encourage your feedback! Thanks! http://www.collegeadmissionshq.org
