“I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never, ever possibly destroy us. Mr. Stay Puft.” – Dr. Ray Stantz, Ghostbusters

Not content to conquer the wallets of those whose personal Venn diagrams overlap “Love for DC comics” and “tabletop gamers,” Cryptozoic has branched out from the DC Mighty Meeples and has created the greatest pop culture meeple set this side of a proton pack, the Ghostbusters Collection.

For those of you unfamiliar with meeples, they’re the little wooden humanoid player tokens that first started showing up when European games became popular. Now they’re everywhere and fairly synonymous with gamer culture (see our own Tabletop Game Review Index over to the right). Mighty Meeples are those same little wooden people, but with awesome pop culture characters printed on them. We good? Good.

Actually, Ray, I’m OK with this. (Image Credit: Anthony Karcz)

The Ghostbusters set is the second Mighty Meeples collection from Cryptozoic (the first being the amazing Justice League collection). It features Ray, Peter, Egon, and Winston along with a legless Slimer meeple and an oversized Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. They come in an Ecto-1 tin that’s so cute, I wish that it had its own meeple.

The detail on each individual figure is impressive. Obviously, they’re hyper-stylized to fit the Mighty Meeples mold (Stay Puft and Slimer fare better in that regard) but for being simplified representations of the crew, Cryptozoic doesn’t spare the deco! I especially like how the “hands” of the meeples are actually everyone’s elbows, with the exception of Stay Puft and his stubby T-Rex arms.

These are the perfect thing for your Ghostbusters or ’80s movie collection. The next Mighty Meeples set will swing back to DC and feature Batman’s Rogues Gallery; but I’m hoping Cryptozoic picks up more movie properties for future Mighty Meeples—can you imagine a Back to the Future or even a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off set packaged in a DeLorean and Modena Spyder, respectively?

Mighty Meeples are fun, detailed, and are the perfect thing to start or enhance a collection. The Ghostbusters tin will set you back just $15 on Amazon and will be available soon! Happy busting!
