Rendering of Pandora: Disney

In the Summer of 2017, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will open Pandora: The World of AVATAR, a whole new land based on James Cameron’s Avatar film series. This is one of a number of new movie-themed attractions Disney Parks has in production – others of which include the new Star Wars land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction at Disney’s California Adventure park.

The new Avatar themed land is a recreation of Pandora, the bioluminescent planet on which the film is set. Alongside Animal Kingdom’s Tree of Life centerpiece, the park will likely add the familiar Tree of Souls from the film. In a new video, Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rhode and filmmaker James Cameron take viewers on an exciting preview of the new land, including the technologically advanced, and responsive landscape, floating islands and both featured attractions which will bring park-goers through the rivers and across the skies of this rich and wondrous world of Pandora. Avatar, which to this day is the highest grossing movie of all time, is known for making technological advances in digital effects and experiential cinema. The film was a game-changer, pushing 3D into prominence and changing the cinematic landscape. With a number of sequels on the way (the first due out in 2018), now is the perfect time for Disney to introduce this new world.
