Today, we round out 2016 with the incredible Cressida Cowell. You’re welcome.

If you’re unaware, Cressida is the author of the How to Train Your Dragon series of books, upon which the massively successful Dreamworks films are based. The first book came out in 2004, and the twelfth and final installment in the series (How to Fight a Dragon’s Fury) recently came out. So the bad news is the series is now done. The good news – if you’ve never read the books – is that there are TWELVE of them! (And if you’d rather listen to them, we highly recommend the versions read by David Tennant, which we rave about in this episode. You won’t be sorry.)

But you should be warned that the books are very different from the films in several major respects. No spoilers, but don’t dive into the books expecting the Toothless you know and love or Astrid…like, at all.

Cressida was kind enough to take some time away from the Miami Book Fair to chat with us before heading back to the UK to buckle down and work on her next project. On this episode, we talk about her childhood experiences on an uninhabited island, her own “uninhabited island” in her backyard where she writes, David Tennant, the changes made to her characters and story for the films, and how it feels to finally be moving on from Hiccup and Berk after more than 12 years.
