It’s been over a year and a half since news first broke of the collaboration between Universal Studios and Nintendo that promised to bring the Big N’s iconic gaming experiences into the real world. Yesterday, both titans of entertainment broke this long silence with the following video.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Mark Woodbury of Universal Creative shared some early insights into what this project will entail, not the least of which was the revelation that Nintendo-themed areas are coming to Universal Studios Japan, Universal Orlando Resort, and Universal Studios Hollywood.
From the related press release:
- These will be expansive, immersive and interactive. They will be highly themed and authentic environments filled with multiple attractions, shops and restaurants.
- Guests will feel as if they are playing inside their favorite games – this time in real life.
- There will be something for everyone – regardless of their age or gaming experience level.
The bad news? While the planning is “well underway,” each park’s offerings will open separately over the next several years. That likely means that we won’t be hoarding rupees with Link, vacuuming ghosts with Luigi, or harvesting helpful Pikmin anytime soon.
Wow! That’s freaking awesome.
I’m pretty excited about it myself, Jennifer! 🙂
