DC Entertainment and the U.S. Postal Service kicked off last weekend’s New York Comic-Con in style: by unveiling the gorgeous new Wonder Woman stamps. The four different designs, which celebrate four distinct eras in Wonder Woman’s history, are Forever stamps and will be always be valid at the whatever the 1st class rate happens to be. But come on, how many of you will actually be using these stamps?
The Golden Age design was drawn by Jon L. Blummer and shows the character as originally envisioned by creator William Moulton Marston. The Silver Age design was by Irving Novick, and the beautiful Bronze Age design was by the incomparable José Luis García-López. The phenomenal Modern Age design? None other than Cliff Chiang.
The NYCC first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony consisted of several speakers, including the official stamp dedication by Kristin Seaver, Chief Information Officer & Executive Vice President of the USPS. Also on hand were José Luis García-López, Cliff Chiang, Dan Didio, Jim Lee, Greg Breeding (Wonder Woman Forever stamps art director), and Christie Marston (Wonder Woman creator William Marston’s granddaughter).
According to Seaver, “Wonder Woman was one of the first female superheroes that inspired countless young girls over the past three quarters of a century. . . . and she confused the havoc of a male-dominated world and gave women the hope of justice.” Indeed.
The sheets of 20 stamps are available now, so go stock up. If you’re interested in getting a first-day-of-issue postmark, you have 60 days to do so by mail. Buy new stamps at your local post offices, the USPS website (usps.com⁄shop), or by calling 800-782-6724. Affix a stamp to an envelope of your choice, address the envelope to yourself, and place it in a larger envelope addressed to:
