Remember when the US comic book convention season ended with the summer? Those days are over. With the New York Comic Convention now bringing in more people than San Diego Comic Con, there’s also a need for a different kind of East Coast convention–one that’s a bit easier to navigate and more accessible to all those new fans. Thankfully, there’s the NJ Comics Expo.
Last year, the team behind Long Beach Comic Con brought their magic to the New Jersey Convention and Expo Center. I attended and was impressed. It was the perfect convention for both my then five-year-old and my teenager. With weekend passes costing only $50, you can get two days of con fun for the cost of less than some days of other conventions. Plus, kids under 10 are free on Sunday (with purchase of adult ticket).
The guest list is impressive and just too varied to put here. Personally, I’m looking forward to getting my copy of Leave It to Chance #1 signed by James Robinson and meeting Mark Bagely, the Spider-Man artist I most associate with my teen years. I also know my daughter is going to be hanging out at their dedicated Cosplay Corner quite a bit.
