In addition to being the 20th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise and Wonder Woman’s 75th birthday, 2016 also marks the 25th anniversary of Sega’s speedy mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. While that might not garner all the pomp and/or circumstance as the aforementioned properties, it’s still a big deal.

Why? Because Sonic is a survivor!

Despite the dissolution of Sega’s console development division and a shaky transition to the world of 3D platformers, our noble hedgehog has endured. He’s even extended an olive branch to his old nemesis, Mario, making his way into the latest iteration of the Smash Bros. franchise—not to mention continuing this new brand of friendly competition in the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games series.

But whether you’re an old fan with fond memories of Sonic’s Genesis roots or a relative newcomer that knows him more as a third-party character, we can all celebrate the Sonic legacy with a new Collector Pack from Tomy.

It includes a trio of 3-inch figures– Sonic, Knuckles, and everyone’s favorite second banana, Tails—with multiple points of articulation and each sporting a handsome, vaguely metallic paint job. Each also comes with a corresponding 25th-anniversary coin with a “minted” year that references each character’s first foray into the gaming market.

The figures themselves, while not exactly sturdy enough to share with your youngest geeklings, are well constructed and look great. Similarly, what the coins lack in fine detail they more than make up for in sheer weight. Seriously, y’all, these suckers are heavy!

Tomy’s Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Collector Pack is the perfect addition to your game room or office cubicle. Moreover, it’s a great way to celebrate 25 years of high-speed hijinks from gaming’s foremost hedgehog.
