pets-3dThe Secret Life of Pets was one of the best family films of the year so far, containing an excellent mix of humor that appealed to kids and their parents. It also had what is arguably the best animated character introduced in the last several years, and certainly the best bunny rabbit with a complex, in Snowball, voiced brilliantly by Kevin Hart. GeekMom reviewed the movie when it was in theaters three months ago, and thought it was excellent (a sentiment with which I agree completely).

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has just announced the release dates for the film on digital HD download and 4K Ultra/Blu-ray/DVD/On-Demand. The digital HD download will be available starting on November 22, 2016, so it would make an ideal movie to put on the TV to entertain kids while Thanksgiving dinner is being prepared or to give everyone time to digest the meal before serving the pumpkin pie. The other forms of media will be available on December 6, 2016.

The 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD versions feature nearly an hour of bonus content, including three “mini-movies,” including the all-new ‘Norman Television’ and ‘Weenie,’ in addition to ‘Mower Minions’ which appeared in theaters before the movie and is now available to own. All of the disc releases will include nearly an hour of bonus content, including short pieces about real-life pets (including a Go-Pro video which promises to be interesting), and a piece that I know I’m looking forward to that is officially described as “[a] rapid-fire, fun and oddly musical mash-up of all the best Snowball one-liners.” The Blu-ray and 4K Ultra releases will also include some bonus content not available in other formats.

In case you didn’t catch The Secret Life of Pets in theaters earlier this year, or if you just want to whet your appetite for the video releases, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has released this trailer:
