Comic-con has become a home for all things pop culture encompassing many geekdoms, but one of my favorite aspects is still simply shopping the exhibit floor for art. Here’s a roundup of the artists I’ve discovered at Comic-Con last weekend!
Brian Kesinger
Brian is a story artist at Disney, and a big fan of steampunk. His print series “Tea Girls” features steampunk girls drinking tea, painted with…tea! But I just fell in love with his “Octo and Victoria” series, available in prints, picture books, and coloring books. Christine Knopp
Christie is a freelance artist, a digital illustration professor, and a children’s picture book illustrator. In her free time, she likes to…draw some more! She’s work on many things from Disney to video games, and her animal-related art ranges from the whimsical to the adorable. Cody Vrosh
Cody is a self-taught illustrator. I’m especially fond on his whimsical-meets-scifi watercolor series, but I also love his “teeth creatures.” In addition to his art, Cody has runs an independent book press and eco-friendly screen printing shop, Binary Winter Press. Nidhi Chanani
Nidhi is a freelance artist who has worked with many companies such as Disney, Paramount, and ABC. Her Indian background shows up in her art, such as in cute illustrations like Festival of Lights (featured above) and her debut graphic novel Pashmina which will be published in 2017 with First Second. Her prints would make a addition to a nursery or children’s room decor, in fact I bought two of her prints for my kids’ bedrooms.
Karen Hallion
Karen taught art in elementary school until she pursued freelance artist full-time in 2009. She is a proud geek and I think her art shows that pretty well! To find out more about her art, you can visit her website or her Etsy shop khallion.
Chris Gugliotti
Chris is an illustrator and comic book artist who has done with publishers such as DC Comics. In addition, Chris also runs a webcomic, Playing Dead. You can find out more about his art on his website or his Etsy shop TheRedHoodie.
Ethan Castillo
The special thing Ethan as an artist is that he’s 11 years old! Follow his latest work on Facebook or Twitter @ethancastillo05.This is one future comic book artist you will want to keep an eye on!
Jose Emroca
Jose is a freelance illustrator and concept designer. His oil paintings are wonderful, and his renditions of popular video games are pretty epic. You can find more about Jose’s art and shop his prints on his website.
Geoff Pascual
Geoff is a self-taught watercolor artist. His messy interpretations run the geek gamut, from video game characters to movie icons and superheroes. You can find more about Geoff’s art and shop his prints on his website.
Bobby Chiu
Bobby is the founder and creative director of Imaginism Studios, which works on character and concept design for all forms of media. He also teaches digital painting at Schoolism.com.
