Music Review: ‘Away We Go!’ by Caspar Babypants

The ever-prolific Caspar Babypants has just released another new album today–Away We Go!

I feel like I say this every album, but Away We Go! is our family’s new favorite. The album has a very folksy vibe to it, and our whole family has been really digging this disc. My personal favorite is “If You’re Sleepy,” which is a collaboration with Jen Wood who has worked on many songs with Caspar. It’s a new take on “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” My wife’s favorite is “Chicken in the Cornbread” (though I’ve caught my son randomly signing it while he plays around the house), and my son’s favorite is “Rattlesnake,” which is partly taken from an old public domain song.

“Sleepy Snail and Speedy Spider” is one all three of us really enjoy. My son just likes the song, but my wife and I kid that we are the snail and spider (you can figure out which is which).

Caspar Babypants is Chris Ballew of Presidents of the United States fame. As usual, Ballew has written a short background story for each song on the album explaining how the idea came to him. I highly recommend reading them for some great insight into the mind of a genius!

The artwork for the cover, as always, was done by Ballew’s wife, Kate Endle. More of her work can be found in her Etsy store. Her art is lovely and can be enjoyed by the whole family. They make great kid’s room decorations!
