This week, we would’ve gotten away with it if it weren’t for those meddling kids, J.M. DeMatteis and Keith Giffen. We’re joined by longtime creative partners DeMatteis and Giffen to talk about their newest book from DC – Scooby Apocalypse!

The third issue of the series is out this week, and it takes a decidedly different look at the Scoobyverse. The book is part of the newest wave of titles from DC that “reimagines” classic Hanna-Barbera properties (Future Quest, Wacky Race Land, and The Flintstones are the others).

DeMatteis and Giffen are certainly no strangers to the comic book landscape. They have decades of experience between them, and they have had seminal runs on a number of books (both together and individually), such as Justice League International, Justice League Europe, The Spectacular Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, Doom PatrolJustice League 3000, Justice League 3001, and so many more.

Giffen co-created the character of Lobo for DC, and away from superheroes, DeMatteis has written some of my favorite books, including Moonshadow, Brooklyn Dreams, Abadazad, The Stardust Kid, and Imaginalis.

On this episode, we chat about Scooby, their longtime collaboration, how the industry has changed since the 70s, creator-owned work, and writing for different formats.
