It’s a Duck Blur — ‘DuckTales’ Is Back!

Here it is, folks: quite possibly the most anticipated announcement Disney will make at this week’s Comic-Con International: San Diego. DuckTales is coming back, and we’re getting our first glimpses!

With no Star Wars panel (Star Wars Celebration was last weekend, for cryin’ out loud) and only Doctor Strange from Marvel in the immediate future, Disney isn’t expected to be making any major reveals in San Diego. So all of their eggs are in the television animation basket… but at least they’re solid-gold duck eggs!

The upcoming series, which is set to debut in 2017 on Disney XD, stars–who else?–Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Donald Duck. From the exclusive teaser art released today, it looks like Webby will also be in the show. I think it’s also a pretty solid bet that fan favorite characters such as Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Magica de Spell, and the Beagle Boys will also show up.

The new show will be executive produced by Annie Award nominee Matt Youngberg (Ben 10: Omniverse). The story editor and coproducer is Francisco Angones (Wander Over Yonder), and the art director is Sean Jimenez (Gravity Falls).

That’s about all we know at the moment. Still no word on voices or actual animation art. However, the art you see above will appear on the back of the DuckTales Cinestory Volume 1 comic, a collectible edition featuring a retelling of the first five episodes of the original DuckTales. It will be released first at Comic-Con on Wednesday, July 20, and will become available in comic book stores nationwide beginning Tuesday, September 27.

  1. Not a fan of the artwork, but I’ll admit that I’ve liked the comics and the original cartoon quite a bit. Donald looks relatively okay, but the kids look off. Hoping the story makes up for that, but wish they wouldn’t mess w/ the originals that much. It doesn’t feel up to date so much as it feels wrong. :-/
