Underground Toys Wants You to Play With Your Food

Doctor Who tongs

If you’re a Whovian, you’ve likely heard of Underground Toys. Reason being, they have the license for Doctor Who action figures. If you own a Sonic Screwdriver, odds are they made it.

But did you know that they also made a range of home products? I was very impressed with their line of kitchen and housewares when I first saw them at ToyFair 2015. One year later, the expanded line at ToyFair 2016 was even more impressive. One item that grabbed me (#dadjoke) was the Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Tongs. These big, handy tongs make a sound when you snap them closed. They’re fairly on model, just enlarged. Underground was kind enough to send me one to review, so I used them as soon as possible. Sadly, it was too cold to grill, but they’re just as useful inside as out.

As you can see, the tongs work perfectly as tongs. The only complaint I can think of is that it maybe made the noise a drop too often. It’s entirely possible that this and other such products may get your kids more interested in cooking.

But wait, there’s more! Not a Whovian? Underground also makes housewares with other licensees, including Star Wars. There is a lightsaber of the tong, and lots of other stuff:

I was actually supposed to get a set of the Star Wars cookie jars, but they simply didn’t have enough. And you can tell why. If I ever get married again, I think I’m putting all this on my registry.

Underground Toys was kind enough to send a set of tongs for review purposes. One of my friends was kind enough to make steak with them. SO GOOD, you guys.

  1. Eh… 10 years in food service has made me only want industrial food toys. Chatchkes are for front-of-the-house, not back-of-the-house. I’ll gladly put cookie jars and napkins and sonic everythings on my wedding registry if I ever get remarried.

  2. Wait a second there…. Why didn’t you give _me_ the rings to make you a steak?!?!
