We’ve got a two-fer for you this week. We just couldn’t wait to share this episode with you, so we decided to release two shows this week. And, let me tell you, this one was an absolute pleasure to do. Today, we’re joined by the voice of Pumbaa himself, Ernie Sabella!

Ernie has been the sole voice of the character since 1994’s The Lion King. He’s voiced the character in all of the sequels, the Timon & Pumbaa show back in the 90s, The Lion Guard show (currently on Disney Junior), Disney Parks attractions, video games, and everywhere else the big guy has shown up. In short, he’s been everyone’s favorite stinky warthog for more than 20 years!

We chat with Ernie about how he first got the role, finding his voice (on the spur of the moment with Nathan Lane), how Pumbaa has become part of him and singing in character. We also talk about his career away from the Pridelands and the amazing opportunity he’s had to reach generations of kids.

If you’re a fan of the world of The Lion King or are watching The Lion Guard, be sure to check out our conversations with Ford Riley, executive producer of the show, and Atticus Shaffer, who plays Ono on the show.

And be sure to tune in tomorrow for the latest episode (on Disney Junior on 4/29), called “Bunga and the King.” In it, Bunga (the honey badger) is trapped underground with Simba, and the two bond over the fact that they were both raised by Timon and Pumbaa. Awwww……
