TRNDlabs is killing it with all of their amazing small drones, and my latest acquisition, the SKEYE Hexa Drone, is amazing.
Several months ago, I reviewed the Pico Drone, a very tiny drone from TRNDlabs that my son and I really enjoyed. However, it’s so small that it’s not really an outside drone unless you have perfect weather conditions. So TRNDlabs sent me over the Hexa drone to try out as well. Unfortunately, living in Seattle, it took a few months for the weather to get nice enough to break this baby out and try it outside (we tried to fly it inside, but we just didn’t have enough space).
The Hexa Drone has six propellers and each one has a nice little guard to keep it from getting broken or popping off during flight (after about four hours of total flight time and plenty of crashing, I’ve only lost one prop). The Hexa Drone is four channel and has a 50 meter range as well. This allows for plenty of non-interference flight over a nice range.
Charging is fast and easy with a USB cable. The USB plug itself lights up to indicate charging and turns off when charging is complete.
Now for the important part–flying the SKEYE Hexa Drone is a blast! My son loves chasing it around as I fly it and when I, inevitably, crash it, he brings it back to our starting point for another flight. Every time we break it out, we stay out until the battery is completely drained (usually about 15 minutes at a time). And I’m actually at the point now where I sort of know what I’m doing and can make the drone, more or less, do what I want it to.
