When I learned about (Re)Generation Who, a Doctor Who- themed convention in Hunt Valley Maryland, I was pretty excited. (Re)Generation Who returns for its second year this March 18th to 20th. The event has managed to attract great guests, including both the 5th and 6th Doctors, Peter Davison and Colin Baker.

As a kid, I fondly remember watching Tom Baker in Doctor Who, via a barely watchable UHF public television broadcast. There are certainly bigger Doctor Who fans, or Whovians, than I. Nevertheless, I was thrilled to re-connect with the Doctor when the show was re-launched in 2005 after a long hiatus. Now for geeks like me, there’s a U.S. based event to celebrate all the timey-wimey madness that is Doctor Who. Some of the GeekDad editors attended last year, and I will be joining the fun this time around.

In addition to two former Doctors, other guests include actors from the Doctor Who series; companions from several of the Doctor’s early incarnations will be there, in fact. Plus there are writers, musicians, and artists from the current run of the show. Some folks from Doctor Who audio stories producer Big Finish will be there as well.

The program for the event is packed with over 100 panels, performances, and activities to enjoy. You can discuss Doctor Who companions, collectables, and cosplaying. Or explore “What If” scenarios like the Doctor meeting Sherlock Holmes. There will be music, comedy, and dance performances too!

Geeks like games, and there will be plenty of fun and games at this con. Two LARP (Live Action Role Playing) games are planned, plus a game room and a dedicated panel room for gaming related panels and presentations.

The kids won’t feel left out at (Re)Generation Who. There are things for the little ones to do all weekend long. Check the children’s program or stop by the dedicated Kids Programming Room to learn about activities including: “How to Write Your Name in Gallifreyan,” “Doctor Who Mad Libs,” or “Pin the Face on Cassandra.” There will be craft activities involving coloring, making paper TARDISes, and much more.

Like most cons, there will be vendors and artists for all manner of geeky art, clothes, and accessories.

Also like many cons, there are likely to be plenty of cosplayers decked out in their finest Doctor Who-themed get-ups. With such a long and rich history, there’s no telling Who may show up.

Pre-registration is recommended and closes Wednesday before the event at midnight EST. There are various VIP levels with perks like special badges, a custom (Re)Generation Who con t-shirt, and access to special events.
