Review: Olala 13000mAh Portable Power Bank

Gadgets Products Reviews Technology

Olala-MainIf you’re anything like me, you are on the go a lot and use your phone a lot. Until phone manufacturers come up with better batteries, external batteries are here to stay, and the Olala 13000 mAh Power Bank is here to save the day.

Last year, I got fed up with chasing down an available power outlet and being stuck waiting for my phone to recharge during cons. I think just about any convention goer today will agree that an extra external battery or power bank is an essential part of their gear, so I snagged a 5000 mAh power bank. That power bank has proven a lifesaver many times over, and I still use it today.

Olala-ConnectorsHowever, I can only get one full charge out of it, and then I need to charge it as well. At a long con day, that isn’t always enough. The Olala 13000 mAh power bank can see you through a couple of charges before needing to be charged itself. The Olala has all of the same features I love about my other charger–Built-in lightning connector (no carrying around extra cables), an extra USB port for dual charging a second device, and easy to understand lights for indicating charging–all in a sleek form factor.

Olala-SizeThe Olala is about the same dimensions as my iPhone 6 length and width-wise, but about twice as thick. Now if you aren’t carrying a bag of some sort at conventions, this may not work for you as it would add significant bulk and weight to your pocket, but, really, you should have some sort of bag at a con for carrying your phone, wallet, power bank, snacks, and water anyway!

I’ll be putting the Olala to a major real world test in a couple of weeks at Emerald City Comic Con. In my test runs at home, it was charging at a little less than 1% a minute without shutting anything down. Based on my experience with the power drain on my iPhone 6, I was expecting it to actually perform worse than this, so I’m very happy with the results and can’t wait to try it out at the convention.

The Olala is Apple MiFi certified and is currently 75% off on Amazon, so grab yours now, and you won’t be disappointed.

Note: I was given a review device but all thoughts and opinions above are my own.
