A few months ago, I reviewed the Karma Go Mobile Hotspot. In that review. I talked about Karma’s then newly launched Neverstop service, which offered limitless data at 5 Mbps connection speeds for just $50 a month. It was designed for people who wanted to use their Karma every day and not worry about how much data they had left.
But in the era of binge-watching, Neverstop didn’t have the staying power Karma had hoped — even after they introduced a 15GB monthly usage cap and throttling to glacial (128 Kbps) speeds after exceeding this limit. So earlier this month, Karma announced that they were putting a stop to Neverstop.
However, from the ashes of Neverstop rises Pulse, Karma’s new plan which offers monthly recurring data packages in 5GB ($40), 10GB ($75), and 20GB ($140) chunks. Under this new scheme, if you go over your chosen data allotment, you can buy additional 1GB chunks of data for $15, and any unused extra data will be credited back to your account at the end of your billing period.
Karma says that Pulse will average speeds of around 6 to 8 Mbps (topping out at 25 Mbps) and it will retain Karma’s karmic data-sharing program — like Neverstop, you’ll earn a $1 credit to your account every time you share your WiFi connection with someone (and they get 100MB of free data).
Karma isn’t making any changes to its other data plan, the company’s flagship pay-as-you-go Refuel, which features never-expiring data. It’s what I use, and I’m still quite happy with it.
