Kickstarter Tabletop Alert: 'Fabulous Beasts'

Kickstarter Tabletop Games

If you like mashing up digital and analog play, here’s a Kickstarter project you may want to check out: Fabulous Beasts.

Our sponsor today, Sensible Object, just launched its Kickstarter campaign this morning. Fabulous Beasts is like a dexterity stacking game mixed with Disney Infinity. The game comes with some very cool animal figurines, some “artefacts,” and a battery-powered base that connects to an app (iOS or Android).

You scan a beast or artefact, and then balance it on the base. As you do, the beasts appear on the screen–and they can evolve and combine in interesting ways. You’ll have to use dexterity to get them to stack, but you’ll also want to try out different combinations to discover all the interesting animals that can be created.

The project has several pledge levels: you can get just a set of the beasts themselves, the core game, or really fancy versions. There’s even a “Maker” set with plain white artefacts that you can paint yourself, plus RFID tags that let you use your own objects in the game.

I love seeing apps that connect to the physical world in interesting ways, so I’m excited about Fabulous Beasts. I should be getting the opportunity to try a hands-on demo soon, so stay tuned for more!
