With the new year comes a whole new batch of streaming movies and television shows to the device of your choice. Here are five picks to keep you and your family entertained in January.

Adventure Time Season 6 – The most recent season of Cartoon Network’s surreal, thoughtful show arrives on Hulu this month. The season begins with Finn finally meeting his father Martin, but it doesn’t come without a price. Over the 43 new episodes available, Finn and Jake continue to evolve beyond their original personas, while the other characters of Ooo undergo changes of their own.

Ice Age 2: The Meltdown – The animated sequel follows up the 2002 original as Manny, Sid, and Diego discover that melting glaciers isn’t as fun as they expected it to be. While the sequel isn’t as well-received as the original was, it’s not too bad compared to the rest of the franchise. And let’s be honest, at least it’s not Minions. Ice Age 2 is now available to stream on Netflix.

Journey to the Center of the Earth – What Amazon Prime has is not the 2009 Brandon Frasier remake, but the 1959 original film starring Pat Boone and James Mason. Based on the Jules Verne novel, Journey to the Center of the Earth is about a group of geologists exploring a subterranean corridor filled with fantastic creatures. It’s always good to try and get your children to invest in the classics.

Sofia the First Season 2 – Never let it be said that Disney doesn’t know what they’re doing, as this series introduces pre-school kids to the world of Disney Princesses. Sofia is a mixed-race princess who explores her fairy tale kingdom, and season 2 (now on Netflix) features appearances from Snow White, Rapunzel, Mulan and more.

Thundercats – “Thunder, thunder, Thundercats … HOOOOO!” The complete adventures of the popular 80s cartoon series about Lion-O and his group of bipedal feline warriors is now available on Amazon Prime. A total of 130 episodes are available, so introduce your kids to the franchise, or just sit back by yourself and relive your childhood.
