Some of the best times we can have gaming with our family is teaming up. ‘Wolf & Hound‘ is a team-based game (based on Japanese game designer Fukutarou’s Tamamoool: Defend the Egg) where players team up to protect their sheep at the expense of their opponents. It qualifies as a quick game – perfect for young or novice players, or as a transitional game between more intense matchups on family game night.

What’s great about Wolf & Hound is that it can be as simple or complex as you and your game group desire. The basics are quite simple:
The game is played as a 2 versus 2 partnership game. Your goal is to protect you and your partner’s sheep from being chased away by the evil wolves. You will win the game if one of your opponents loses all his or her sheep first.
To start the game, team members will sit across from each other. Each player will start with 3 sheep in their pasture, and 4 cards in their hand.
Each turn you will play one card from your hand which will move the wolf or the hound. Where the wolf or the hound moves to determines the fate of your sheep. If there is a wolf in your pasture at the start of your turn, then the wolf will chase away one of your sheep. Rest assured though, if there is a hound in your pasture at the start of your turn, then he will rescue the lost sheep and bring it back to your pasture.
You can easily enjoy this game with your family. Partner up with your kids and help them out! Or have your kids partner up with each other and challenge them to defeat you! The game scales up very well so that both your youngest and oldest child can equally have fun playing the game.
This basic gameplay is perfect for younger players (especially when they are partnered with a parent) or novice gamers. But when you have a more experienced group, you can change the game up with the optional “advanced” cards that add strategy to the game that takes the experience to a whole new level.
