Toys “R” Us Wins All of Dadvertising With New ‘Star Wars’ Ad

Featured Geek Culture Movies Products Toys

It goes without saying that here at GeekDad, we tend to get excited when a new piece of “dadvertising” gets it right. There have been many, many ads depicting dads as buffoons and oafs, so when a new commercial shows a dad that is present and passionate, it’s a great relief. Throw in some Star Wars and an honest-to-goodness geek dad, and it only gets better. That’s exactly the case with the new Star Wars-themed commercial just released by Toys “R” Us. Check it out…

As a GeekDad of two daughters, the oldest of whom shows only a fleeting interest in Star Wars, I can absolutely connect with this ad. To prove it, here’s a picture of me and my oldest back in 2010 when she was just two years old…

The ad comes as Toys “R” Us introduces a new line of interactive Force Awakens toys from Thinkway, including a remote control AT-AT, an animatronic Kylo Ren, a voice-activated Chewbacca, and an awesome interactive R2-D2 and C-3PO that I see making there way into my home in the very near future.

The Force has been awake at Toys “R” Us since they hosted Force Friday back in September. As the holidays and The Force Awakens release date approach, it will only get bigger. In fact, Star Wars is everywhere these days, and the marketing blitz is taking over.

Thankfully, many of the ads I’ve seen thus far have played wonderfully into the imagination and nostalgia of the Star Wars Universe. There have been a number of great Star Wars-themed ads from Target, Kraft, and Duracell, but this latest ad from Toys “R” Us is by far my favorite.
