Marvel Announces ‘Mockingbird’ Solo Title

Comic Books Geek Culture Television

Mockingbird-CoverMarvel just announced that a Mockingbird solo title, eponymously named Mockingbird, will be hitting stores in 2016.

As I previously wrote about my excitement for the Mockingbird/Hunter spin-off TV series, it will probably not surprise anyone that I am absolutely ecstatic about this new comic series. Mockingbird, along with Hawkeye, have been two of my favorite heroes since I was a kid reading West Coast Avengers.

It’s also no surprise that both Clint Barton, Hawkeye, and Lance Hunter will make appearances in the title. Hawkeye is an integral piece of Mockingbird’s past, present, and future, and, of course, bringing Hunter in ties in nicely with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. We are also promised to see the London Hellfire Club, an evil A.I.M. splinter group, zombies, and corgis.

The new series is co-created by writer Chelsea Cain and artist Kate Niemczyk. Cain is an established writer, known for her strong, butt-kicking female protagonists. She made her comics debut just a couple of months ago when she write the Mockingbird: S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th Anniversary one-shot. I’m sold on her abilities to do Bobbi justice.

Mockingbird-SketchesAs for Niemczyk, if this sketch doesn’t prove she is going to do a great job with Mockingbird, you can check out her video game inspired art on Deviant Art. Her style is both realistic and cartoony, and you can tell she has a great sense of humor.

Mockingbird is definitely the comic I’m most looking forward to next year, and I’m pretty sure Cain and Niemczyk aren’t going to let me down.
