Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing – Box 4: ‘Villains’

Comic Books Geek Culture Reviews Toys

MCC4BoxFunko has shipped their fourth and final Collector Corps box for 2015! Without a tentpole movie, they’ve gone to the comic book pool again with some pretty fantastic results for the Wave 4 Villains box.

I’m of the mind that Marvel has some of the greatest villains and anti-heroes of any universe out there. Be they creepy (Venom), maniacal (Red Skull), or omnipotent (Thanos), it’s the villains that pull the strings in Marvel. Without their constant meddling, the heroes would have gotten bored of rescuing old ladies from crosswalks long ago and retired to Florida to open shaved ice stands.

MCC4BoxedI love the pin and patch this time. Red Skull makes for a fantastic patch and the Green Goblin pin proves that there’s no way to draw his face without making him look like a complete loon. The shirt is great too – using actual line art from the comics rather than Funko versions.

The Loki Dorbz is my favorite out of the three vinyl figures included this month. Between the expression and the insane level of painted detail, this figure just hits all the right buttons. If Funko decided to do a Dorbz-only box, I would sign up for it in a second.

While I worry about the long-term durability of the Venom bobble-head keychain, he will be attached to my new briefcase as soon as possible. Sure, it may mean that I’m walking around with a teeny symbiote head and nothing else; but it’s a risk I’m willing to take.

But wait, if he's a Living Vampire, wouldn't he be a zombie too...?
But wait, if he’s a Living Vampire, wouldn’t he be a zombie too…?

Morbius is the exclusive bobble-head this time around and he’s pretty great. If you like Morbius, that is. I’ve never been a fan of the “Living Vampire,” so while I can appreciate it’s a really nicely done piece, I’m not overly compelled to make room for him.

The next box coming in January will be Guardians of the Galaxy-themed. Judging by what I’ve seen on the official Collector Corps Twitter feed, we’ll be getting more of these awesome Dorbz. Sadly, I won’t be getting them this time. It’s been a great year with Collector Corps; but I’ve just run out of room to collect these guys. I love GotG, but it’s not my favorite property, so now is as good of a time as any to take a break. I still say that Marvel Collector Corps is more than worth the money if you’re a fan of the property they’re featuring and you’re looking for something beyond the standard logo shirt and action figure to show your fandom. If you’re on the fence, try out a single month to start – you won’t regret it.

  1. *Second to Last Box
Villains was October’s box; Guardians is December’s box. Close, though.
