A few weeks ago I wrote about the Extra Life Gaming Marathon fundraiser and how our family participates. We had our event yesterday along with many others across the country. Extra Life raised more than six million dollars for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. Our family raised $435 of our $250 goal thanks to the generosity of friends, family, and even a few strangers, and put in more than 30 hours of gaming among us.
We got a late start this year. Driving school finally called, which meant that the teenager and I had an early morning driving class to get to and couldn’t join in the game-a-thon until nearly lunchtime. Gaming didn’t really start in earnest until almost ten a.m. (with a couple of hours of Trove for the husband and youngest daughter), but the last Bryant standing (my husband) turned off his last game (Harbinger) at four o’clock.
This year’s gaming covered quite a range of games, from relay races and Nerf battles to board games, console video games, PC games, and card games. We played a lot of games, and, as always, I was surprised how few it was when you consider how many games we have and want to play.
It was an excellent kick-off to the holiday season, helping others by spending time playing together. Extra Life really does put the fun in fundraising. You can learn about this charity event at the Extra Life website.
