Oxygenics is known for making great powerful yet water-saving shower heads, and their latest models are perfect for any Star Wars fan–Darth Vader and R2-D2.
Let’s get the technical details out of the way first. Both the Darth Vader handheld shower head and the R2-D2 shower head offer three spray settings and feature Oxygenics’ patented technology to increase oxygen content in the water for a more powerful spray that uses less water (saving up to $85 per year on water usage).
I received the Darth Vader unit and easily installed it in just a few minutes with no tools. I’ve installed many shower heads in my time, and I’ve never had one go on and not leak some water without applying extra tape or doing extra tightening with a wrench, so, after only hand-tightening everything, I turned on the water and flinched. And nothing leaked!
Not only did everything work perfectly without any extra work, but Darth Vader looks great in the shower. The three spray settings allow for the combined spray pictured here, just the wider spray pattern that comes out of the smaller holes, or the more concentrated spray pattern that comes only out of his eyes.
There is also a little lever on the handle that allows you to adjust the water flow. This is nice, as you can use as little water as possible while still keeping the hot water flowing while you wash your hair or soap up. We’ve dubbed the lowest setting “Crying Vader.”
The shower head itself isn’t anything spectacularly groundbreaking as far as how well it squirts you with water, but I am interested to see how it affects our water bill over time. Besides, the really important thing is what my son’s face looked like the first time he noticed it. When your son says he wants Darth Vader to cry on him, you know you’ve made it as a geek parent.
The Oxygenics Star Wars Darth Vader and R2-D2 shower heads are both available exclusively at Bed Bath & Beyond and Menards and are less than $30 each. Those are pretty good prices for a high quality, water-saving shower head of any sort, but the Star Wars aspect makes them totally worth it.
