Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland Is Spooky Fun

It’s October, and that means that it is time for kids of all ages (it’s a thing) to channel their inner-spookiness and to fill the streets with Avengers, ghosts, pirates, assorted what-not and Kylo Ren. But perhaps you are the type of parent that wants to stretch the buck(s) on said Halloween costume with additional usage while also ensuring your candy rations are stocked through spring–or maybe your street is lacking in seasonal fun and you long for the bygone days of Main Street, U.S.A.–we get it. Halloween season only lasts from whenever the pumpkin spice lattes came out until they put Christmas trees in department stores, and that may have already happened. Disneyland can help.

Mickey’s Halloween Party is a magical Disneyland spin on the fall holiday season, including your favorite Disney villains roaming the park, tons of trick-or-treat stations piled with treats (for tricks see said villains) and special limited-time versions of Space Mountain and The Haunted Mansion, respectively. In addition, Mickey, Minnie and lots of the gang are out and about in their Halloween costumes, too. Even grown-ups are allowed to dress in costume (only during the event)!

The event requires a separate ticket for admission, which is better than it sounds because it means the park is closed to everyone else and you and yours have easy access to most of the rides (not everything remains open), the incredible “Halloween Screams” fireworks show, the must-see “Paint the Night” parade, and special shows by the Cadaver Dans (the Walking Dapper Dans didn’t have the same ring to it).

My family attended last week and waited a collective 10 minutes in lines for Star Tours, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (ride it before the Star Wars Land construction starts in January!), and Space Mountain aka Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, respectively. Note that ticketed guests are able to enter Disneyland three (3) hours prior to the event, at which time everything is open, so verify which attractions close during Mickey’s Halloween Party and make sure to visit them during that window.

Living in the greater L.A. market we have had the opportunity to attend the event a few times throughout the years, and the boys absolutely love it. We all do. It is a magical memory that doesn’t need time to appreciate–it is wonderful in the now and the highlight of our Halloween season.

UPDATE: The Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland is now sold out for 2015. However, just like Halloween it will be back next year and that gives you the extra time you need to plan your travel, book your hotel and watch every YouTube video ever made at the event. Sometimes fun is a process.

My family attended Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland Resort as guests of Disneyland. All opinions are my (our) own. Make sure to share your haunted adventures on social media with #HalloweenTime and #Disneyland60.
