Marvel Studios released an update to Phase 3 of their film plans. The most important and surprising change was the addition of Ant-Man and the Wasp. This will mark Marvel’s first film where a female hero actually gets billing in the title of the film.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, right between the schedule bumped Black Panther (February 16, 2018) and Captain Marvel (March 8, 2019). Captain Marvel will, of course, be the first Marvel film to have a female hero as the sole lead, and the Ant-Man sequel pushes it out a bit, but making the Ant-Man sequel a dual hero feature with the Wasp was a brilliant move and a great way to get a female hero into their line-up sooner rather than later. I think all of us who watched Ant-Man wanted nothing more than to see Evangeline Lilly don the Wasp costume. (I am also still holding out for Katee Sackhoff in a Captain Marvel costume.)
The other little nugget in the Marvel update is that they have also added three more new, currently untitled films to the calendar for May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020.
While the July 2018 date means DC will beat Marvel to the screen with a female hero film, Wonder Woman is slated for June 23, 2017, I’m way more excited about Ant-Man and the Wasp. Unlike a lot of people, I have no problem with the casting choice for Wonder Woman, but her story and her movie as I imagine them being done just aren’t as interesting to me. Ant-man was fantastically fun, and I have high hopes for the sequel.

Slightly miffed that Captain Marvel is being pushed out again. What can I say, I’m a fan of Carol Danvers. However, this DOES put her movie within a day of my birthday…
I, sadly, missed Ant-Man in theaters but I can’t wait to catch it on DVD.
I agree that I’m not happy about the push but since it’s only a few months I’m not too upset by it. And the more movies the better! Ant-Man was a really great break from the seriousness of the main films and probably one of the reasons they squeezed in the sequel.
