This week, we’re throwing a bit of an odd couple at you. But it’s an odd couple of awesomeness.

First up, we were honored to have Genndy Tartakovsky take time out of his schedule to chat with us not once but twice! Genndy is the director of both Hotel Transylvania films, but he’s also a genuine animation legend. He’s the Emmy- and Annie-award winning creator of Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Sym-Bionic Titan, and the original Clone Wars microseries.

We talked to him both before and after Hotel Transylvania 2‘s record-setting release about how the latest film pushes the envelope with respect to technology, how his experiences in the industry have shaped everything he does, and why he won’t be on board for the intevitable Hotel Transylvania 3. (Unfortunately, technical hiccups were bent on our destruction, so we were unable to ask him everything we wanted, but it’s still a great chat.)

Following our chat with Genndy, we welcome Matthew Lillard to the show! You may know his face from films such as Scream, SLC Punk!, Wing Commander, and Love’s Labour’s Lost, among many others.

You may know his voice, though, as Shaggy Rogers from Scooby-Doo. Lillard first starred as Shaggy in the 2002 live-action film and has been the voice of Shaggy in nearly every incarnation of the character since 2010.

The newest version of the show – Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! – is now showing on Cartoon Network’s Boomerang channel. The show is a bit of a departure from the previous show, Mystery Incorporated, both in tone and style. Be Cool is more squarely aimed at a younger audience.

We chat about the franchise’s enduring legacy, finding a groove with the Scooby gang cast, and why no one can even tolerate Scrappy-Doo. Matthew also shares a lovely memory of Wes Craven from the set of the original Scream.
