Today Warner Bros and DC Entertainment released the first look at the upcoming DC Super Hero Girls with an exclusive animated clip, Welcome to Super Hero High, and photos of some of the figures on the USA Today.

I wrote about the initial announcement and have been eagerly anticipating this reveal. The entire line is aimed at 6-12 year-old girls and the tone and content of the animated clip seems right in line with that target. My favorite thing about the clip is that it features both female and male super heroes as they learn, side-by-side, to use their powers. The ladies of DC are no longer just taking a backseat and, apparently, won’t be relegated to just being love interests for male characters. The clip made it clear that Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Katana, and Bumble Bee will be the main cast.

Although the animated clip does feature both males and females, the toy photos only included female characters. It’s not clear if male characters will be made available in the toy line, but if they aren’t, I don’t see much of a problem with that since they are more than well represented in plenty of other toy lines. As for the figures we did get to see, I love both the Action Figures and Action Dolls lines–both are simultaneously more cartoony and more realistically proportioned than most female figures.

I know the line is aimed at girls, but I can’t wait to get these for my son. He loves super heroes of all sorts and having a wide range of female superhero figures that look normal is great for all kids.
