Last year, another teacher and I had the awesome opportunity to work with a team of high school girls participating in the Technovation Challenge. This unique, global technology entrepreneurship competition challenges young girls to improve their communities by building a mobile app to address a specific need or problem. Award-winning documentarian and filmmaker, Lesley Chilcott, profiles this amazing program in her latest documentary CODEGIRL. The film highlights Technovation’s goals of closing the gender gap in the tech industry and empowering girls all over the world by following teams from Moldova, Brazil, India, Mexico, Nigeria and the United States as they compete to break into the tech world. CODEGIRL will be released to on-demand platforms on November 6th, but as a part of Google’s Made with Code initiative, the film will be available for free on YouTube from November 1st to November 5th.
