Covering songs from The Beatles always seems like an easy go-to for bands, and it is because of the proliferation of those covers that it’s easy to dismiss Beatles cover albums. It is also why, when there is a great one, it easily stands out. Beatles Baby! from Caspar Babypants is one of those albums.
I am and have been a huge Beatles fan as far back as I can remember. I still have my dad’s vinyl from before I was born! And this may seem like sacrilege, but one of my favorite non-Beatles Beatles albums is the Across the Universe Soundtrack. In fact, my favorite Beatles song ever is the Fiona Apple version of “Across the Universe.” So I am a die-hard fan, but I sincerely appreciate great covers and re-makes of these songs I grew up with.
Beatles Baby! is actually the second Caspar Babypants Beatles album, following up to his Baby Beatles! album from 2013. Caspar Babypants has done it again, taking some of the Beatles most well-known songs and re-imagining them. These are not just straight up covers of song,s and that is really key as to why these songs are so great. These songs have been changed into all-ages, kid friendly, and accessible music. I’ve said this before, but Caspar Babypants is so good that I even listen to it when I’m alone!
Caspar Babypants is Chris Ballew of Presidents of the United States fame. As usual, Ballew has written a short background story for each song on the album explaining how the idea came to him. I highly recommend reading them for some great insight into the mind of a genius!
The artwork for the cover, as for always, was done by Ballew’s wife, Kate Endle. More of her work can be found in her Etsy store. Her art is lovely and can be enjoyed by the whole family. They make great kid’s room decorations!
