If you happened to be walking through the woods under the super-blood-moon this past weekend, and stumbled upon a rainbow-colored egg in a strange, perhaps slightly-glowing nest, and took it home with you, there are a few things you need to know:

If you have obtained a cockatrice egg, the easiest thing for you to do is let a chicken incubate it for you; it does not have to be a chicken but they are the easiest surrogate to come by. If you are adventurous, find some magical reptile or bird and have it incubate your egg. If you happen to have a willing dragon or phoenix lying around, it would be particularly helpful for you to document and share your results.

Baby Bestiary is a delightful illustrated guide to the raising of many of the mythical creatures you may be familiar with from your years of fantasy role-playing games. From the Basilisk Lizardling to the Wybern Elver, the bestiary presents information on how to care for your newborn creature. It’s sort of like ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting… a Monster.’

The book is definitely written by gamers, for gamers, and has a great sense of humor about what it would really be like to deal with these creatures in their formative years. It was a successful Kickstarter campaign last year (we are a sponsored advertiser for Metal Weave Designs, the maker of the book), and now that the backers have received their rewards, the book is available to the general (geeky) public.
