D23 Expo: The Best of the Rest

d23expo

Earlier this week, I brought you details about the big “event panels” held in Hall D23 at this weekend’s D23 Expo and what news we might see revealed.

Today, let’s take a look at what other treasures are in store for those attending the event.

In addition to Hall D23, there are two other venues for larger, more popular panels. What types of events? I’m glad you asked. There will be panels focusing on…

  • The Muppets
  • 60 years of the Jungle Cruise attraction
  • Imagineering 60 years of Disneyland
  • Disney on Broadway
  • 20th anniversary of Toy Story
  • Silly Symphonies
  • 20th anniversary of A Goofy Movie
  • Imagineer Marty Sklar
  • Disney TV animation
  • Zootopia
  • Disney Kingdoms comics
  • Animator Eric Goldberg
  • 60th anniversary of the Mickey Mouse Club

And many many more. And because this is Disney’s big show, these panels won’t be hosted and staffed by no-names. Expect A-list Disney peeps to be on hand, such John Lasseter talking about Toy Story, the entire cast of A Goofy Movie, Disney Legends, all-star imagineers, and so on.

There will be an enormous show floor with exhibits from nearly every branch of the Disney company.

The Walt Disney Archives will have a 12,000-square-foot exhibit showcasing more than 300 items that tells the history of Disneyland. (For more about this, check out my chat with Archives Director Becky Cline here.)

The Disney Parks and Resorts pavilion stretches 12,500 square feet and will showcase the creative process behind the development of Shanghai Disneyland and the Avatar project coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The D23 Expo Emporium will be the perfect place to drop oodles of cash on exclusive merchandise.

The Trading Card Quest will have type-A completionists (i.e., yours truly) racing all over the Expo trying to gather all 30 cards (which will be exclusive to the expo and dropped at various locations and times).

And this is all just the tip of the iceberg. There will be far more autograph sessions, exhibits, and special surprises than one person can possibly do…all weekend long.

If you’re not planning to go, do be sure to follow along in the fun online. Follow me on Twitter (@theroarbots) or follow the hashtag #D23Expo.

The D23 Expo only comes along once every couple of years. If you’re a Disneyphile, this weekend is going to be nuts.
