It’s so much fun living in what is effectively the Wild West of home automation and the Internet of Things. Everything can be connected, and running appliances and gadgets from your phone is the baseline now. And one really fun corner of this revolution in automation is lighting.
Enter the SMFX bulb from SmartFX. These are color-controllable LED bulbs (standard A19 size) that comes in Bluetooth and Wi-fi models that allow you complete control over the light coming from it via app on your phone (iOS or Android). Yes, this is not unlike at least one other popular bulb out there in the market, but the SMFX doesn’t require any kind of hub unit running between your phone at the bulb, so the cost of entry is lower, and setup is easier.

Hello, thanks for your article. I haven’t seen these bulbs before, but I’m not convinced in terms of how the app looks like. I also think that the video is not professional. And the price of $59 is pretty expensive comparing to other new smart bulbs on the market.
What makes them special? And please don’t tell me they don’t need a hub – this is just because they use bluetooth instead of Wifi.
