No Starch Press, publishers of many great geek books, has a new book coming out that I am super excited about–Medieval LEGO. GeekDad was lucky enough to have been given access to several exclusive spreads from the book.
As a geek with a degree in Medieval European History, I am probably more excited than most about this book, but who doesn’t want to learn about history via LEGO? Medieval LEGO features 32 historical events, from William the Conqueror in 1028 through the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485.
Medieval LEGO was written by Greyson Beights with contributions from medievalists and scholars, so you can bet it’s the most historically accurate summary you’ll find of these events. Each event is succinctly described to keep interest, yet still be educational. And of course, what makes this book so fun, is that each event is coupled with a depiction of one or more scenes in LEGO assembled by a prolific builder. A full list of the contributors can be found here.
Personally, having focused my studies on Scottish History and the Wars of Independence, I’m most excited to see the William Wallace and Battle of Falkirk scenes, but I’m sure I’ll be drooling over every single one. My son is only two, but he already loves LEGO, and Medieval LEGO will be a great way to introduce him to my favorite historical period.
If you’re a LEGO or history buff, and especially if, like me, you’re both, head over to No Starch Press and pre-order your copy now!
Awesome. Just put on my Christmas wish list!
Thanks for reading, Keith. I’m so excited about this book!
My son is doing a report on William the Conqueror. Is he in this book?
He is but each scene is only one page and a a paragraph or two. While it would be a nice addition to whatever else he might use for reference, by itself it wouldn’t be enough.
