Marvel Collectors Corps Unboxing – Box 2: ‘Ant-Man’

Comic Books Geek Culture Movies Toys

Ant-Man1Marvel and Funko are back at it with the second Marvel Collector Corps box winging its way to subscribers. A quick refresher: for the MCC, you pay $25 + S&H and get items in return that are valued, in aggregate, at a greater value. Funko and Marvel have gone out of their way to assure subscribers that the items they get in their boxes are exclusive and will only be available through the MCC (which has been the case so far with Box 1).

But you didn’t come here to hear me natter on about subscription details, you came to see the goodies! Spoilers from here on out!

Box 2 is focused on the latest hero to hit the Marvel Movie Universe, Ant-Man. The box maintains that great all-over print to engage you from the second you grab the mail. My kids were dying to know what was in the box!

Ant-Man2
BLOMM! BAKK!

The pin and patch are again our first goodies. And again I find myself wishing I had a proper way to display them (rather than tossing them back in the box once I get the toys). Sadly, I do not have a crafty bone in my body – if anyone has a suggestion, let me know in the comments!

Ant-Man4
Judge me by my size, do you?

And, boom. The Ant-Man bobblehead isn’t the oversized behemoth that Box 1’s Hulkbuster armor was; but it makes up for it by including a teeny, helmeted bobblehead (Funko’s smallest ever!) to go with the unmasked version. It seems that this time around, the tiny Ant-Man bobblehead is the exclusive, not both figures. If exclusivity is the draw for you for these boxes, that’s a bit of a disappointment. At the same time, I understand that there’s only a handful of figures that can be done for Ant-Man. So eliminating an unmasked Lang from the lineup wouldn’t have been a smart move for Funko. The design is 100% movie based, which I’m OK with. I was never the biggest fan (ha!) of Lang’s costume in the comics.

Ant-Man5
What’s cool about the extras this time is that you have a 1-in-4 chance of getting a mid-sized helmeted Ant-Man bobblehead, so you can do fun displays like this where it looks like he’s in the process of shrinking down (even if the deco isn’t quite as sharp on the blind-box figure). I also got a stealth armor bobblehead (which I’m guessing will show up in the movie somewhere). Our editor-in-chief  nabbed the awesome Yellowjacket and a shifty-looking Lang.

The shirt is a lot of fun this time and the comic does a good job of hitting some of the story points that will be in the movie. They’re both welcome additions.

I’ll be curious to see where the MCC goes from here. With no more Marvel Studios movies left for 2015, but two more boxes to go, it’s anyone’s guess as to what we’ll be getting (though if we ended up getting a Fantastic Four box, that would be interesting on a lot of levels)! According to the MCC’s Facebook page, they’ll be announcing the next theme in early July. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later. I can’t wait to see who’s going to be joining my collection next!

  1. Ha I did the same thing in a slightly different positioning to make it look like he’s shrinking down. Got the same 2 minis.

  2. Cork board is what we use for the pin and patches. You can get a good sized one for fairly cheap at Wal-Mart.

    1. That’s a really fun idea! I’ve accumulated quite a few pins through various Kickstarters as well, that would be a great way to display them all. Thanks!
