If you missed out on Noelle Stevenson’s award-winning webcomic Nimona, don’t feel bad. I did too. Luckily, Harper Collins released it in trade May of this year, and I was finally able to get my hands on it.
Just an insane story about a shape-shifting sidekick to an “evil” genius, a hero, and the nature of good and evil. Funny, charming, and just great. If you don’t want to rush out to your local bookstore, library, or download it to your digital device, then you still can get into this great adventure in a bit, as Fox animation has snapped up the property. This seems to be more than a basic optioning, as they’ve already got some production staff on board.
It’s been a good year for Stevenson, part of the writing team of Disney’s Wander over Yonder and co-writer on the hit book Lumberjanes. Indeed, that too will be a film. Unlike Nimona, Lumberjanes will be a live action film (although it will also be at Fox). A highly stylized series with a diverse cast, Lumberjanes is an interesting choice for a live action feature, but as it was my #1 choice of comic for a young girl, I’m excited to see what happens.
