‘Captain America: Civil War’ Begins Production

554b8a4d89081Less than a week after the release and huge success of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel Studios has begun production on Captain America: Civil War, which will open in theaters on May 6, 2016.

Civil War picks up shortly after Age of Ultron and will be somewhat based on the storyline in the comics, which essentially pits Iron Man and Captain America against each other and splits the heroes of the world into two sides.

The production announcement includes an amazing roster of actors, most of them known existing characters, but with a handful of new characters being announced. While we will see the return of the entire cast from Avengers: Age of Ultron, we will also get to see Paul Rudd as Ant-Man alongside the Avengers.

Brand new cast members include Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, Emily VanCamp reprising her role as Sharon Carter from Winter Soldier, William Hurt back again as General Ross from The Incredible Hulk, Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo, and Martin Freeman as a currently unknown character. It’s hard to envision Freeman as a superhero type so right now my money is on Pete Wisdom. Wisdom has ties to Hunter (from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and would make a nice tie-in to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off.

Missing from the announcement is any mention of the highly expected appearance of the new, MCU Spider-Man, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.
