Hey You Geeks #40: The Dark and Light Sides of Superhero Movies

Comic Books Movies Podcasts

HYG40

Welcome to Hey You Geeks, a podcast where geeks of all kinds are invited to celebrate and criticize all that we love with a sense of unapologetic nerdiness. From film to TV, comics to gaming, we’re here to look forwards and back to the greatest and sometimes worst geek culture has to offer.

Since 2013, my co-host Ric Rebelo and I have been talking film and geek culture, covering new and old movies, the film and comic book industries, and a lot more on Hey You Geeks. Much of our discussion revolves around our kids, and their place in this emerging geek culture. The podcast began as part of the Sound On Sight podcast network, and now, proudly, has become a part of the GeekDad Podcast Network. We’ve had a number of great guests on the show, including Jodorowsky’s Dune director Frank Pavich, Battlestar Galactica showrunner Ronald D. Moore, the creature shop builders of Jim Henson’s studios, and others. We’re looking forward to keeping our guest count growing, by bringing on even more creators from the worlds of film, television, and comics.

This week on Hey You Geeks, we’re talking about the dark and light sides of comic book movies, piecing together how the dark New York of Marvel’s new Daredevil series will fit into the often lighter-themed MCU. We’re also looking at DC’s new cast of brooding faces and debating where darkness does and doesn’t belong in superhero movies. But first, we explain a little more about the podcast, and cover some news on the upcoming Ghostbusters multiverse and the first Star Wars standalone film, Rogue One. Enjoy!
