Fresh on the heels of our first GeekDad Everyday Carry article, here are even more tech, tools, and accessories a few of the staff here at GeekDad rely on to make it through the day.
Master Geek

Hiding under everything is the amazing ’20s style courier bag from Poetic Earth Journals that I picked up at Dallas Comic Con last year. Miraculously this lightweight leather bag holds all of these items, save the knife, keychain, and phone. Starting on the left is my aging but capable Lenovo Carbon X1. It’s very light but solid and still has enough power to process photos and write blog posts. Continuing to right is the Grid-It organizer which holds a spare camera battery and charger, generic dual USB power adapter, mini displayport to HDMI adapter, a USB-3 HUB with gigabit Ethernet, and an Ethernet cable. The front pockets of the bag hold my Moo cards and a Verizon Mifi. The MiFi also acts as a USB charger, so I have started leaving my heavier battery pack behind.
In the center is my BADbandana from Calamityware, a spare nanodots bag with assorted flash memory, and my much loved Olympus E-M10 with a Sigma 30mm lens. Missing from the photo is an Olympus 17mm lens that I used on my backup camera to take this photo. I can choose to leave the photo gear behind if I’m travelling light, or if I need to take the laptop power brick.
In the bottom row, left, are a SOG Twitch II knife, and my keychain with a Kingston 32GB thumbdrive and G5 Prybaby from Peter Atwood. SOG knives are high on my list of nice things for reasonable prices. This little knife is easy to deploy one-handed, holds an edge well, and is worth twice what it costs. The Prybaby is near impossible to get now that Peter Atwood has gained popularity, but there are cheap alternatives on the mass market if you look. The red mesh bag contains an ugly assortment of USB cables and charging adapters, and lastly, to the right is my also aging, but capable Galaxy Note 3.

I live in Seattle so my scarf and gloves are a necessity most of the year. I'm looking forward to getting a new scarf this year at Emerald City Comic Con. I started a One Line a Day Memory Book so I need it with me all the time and I make entries in it with my Pilot Varsity Disposable Fountain Pen. I’ve wanted a fountain pen for a while but they are expensive so my wife got me a disposable in my stocking last year so I could see if I liked a fountain pen before diving in. Since I have an office day job, my work badge is a necessary evil. I keep my license, credit cards, and punch cards (I’m a punch card addict) in my Dynomighty Mighty Wallet. I love this composition book design but it’s no longer available and it’s getting to be time for a new one. I have very dry skin and so always carry my lip balms (Hurraw Moon Balm and Crazy Rumors Perk Mocha Lip Balm). For all of my music, gaming, podcast listening, and conference calls while on the go, I use Klipsch Image S4i Rugged All Weather In-Ear Headphones. I keep a pretty chaotic keyring. I carry my Inka Write Anywhere Mobile Pen and Stylus, my Scottish flag bottle opener, my Twisted Veins Mini Keychain flashlight that came free with some HDMI cables, and my keys (Go Hawks!). Not pictured (because it took the photo) is my iPhone 6 in its Seidio Electric Blue Dilex Pro Case.
A Geek for All Seasons

I get up around seven; get out of bed around nine… Wait, no… Sorry, that’s actually the opening verse of Guns ‘N’ Roses’ “Mr. Brownstone.” What time I get up is irrelevant, but, once I’m ready to head out and about, I always reach for three perfectly pocketable items. The first is my trusty iPhone 5s, currently being protected by a Roksheild v3 with the optional concealed mounting magnet. It is joined by a minimalist Hammer Anvil wallet and the Keyport key management system. While mobile phone choice is always a matter of preference, I can’t recommend those latter two ultra-modern space-savers highly enough!
I keep my off-hand items in ThinkGeek’s Bag of Holding–Con-Survival Edition. Therein you’ll find my Polk Audio Nue Era earbuds, assorted pins and pencils along with a lined Adventure Time journal for my occasional analog note-taking, a 16GB Finn the Human Mimobot (where I keep the backups of my backups), a handy Nite Ize S Biner Ahhh (combination carabiner/bottle opener), and a couple of sets of Chessex polyhedral dice for my weekly D&D session.
You’ll also find chargers for my three most prized electronic possessions: the New Nintendo 3DS XL, the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9″ (where my comics live), and my beloved 2010 MacBook Air 11.6″ model (protected by an Alcantara Laptop Wrapper and decorated with a sweet Avengers skin from the fine folks at Skinit).
